Jennifer Hawkins and Her Enviable Bikini Body

Jennifer Hawkins has never been shy about her love of working out, and a recent picture posted on the social media site Instagram proved was no different as the former beauty queen gave fans some insight into how she got her enviable body.

Jen's svelte figure and washboard abs can be attributed to reformer Pilates sessions. The 30-year-old shared a snap of herself working out on what looks like a torture contraption to the uninitiated but we all know that it is the Pilates Cadillac.

Jen posted the shot of herself captioned: 'Fave toy. Ohhh, lil bit of luv/hate for sure!! #caddy #workout.'

The Australia's Next Top Model host looks quite relaxed, working her arm muscles with the Pilates springs, in top-to-toe black.

In February, Jen told Vogue Australia that early mornings were her favourite time to exercise - in between her hectic schedule. 'I’m definitely a schedule person so I’ll get up really early and do a Pilates class or go for a run. Pilates I love. If I could do that three times a week I would but I just don’t have the time.'

Exercise makes me feel energised," Hawkins said recently.

"It's like a moving meditation. I work out most days. It depends on my schedule.

"If I can, I will exercise six days a week.

"On average I do cardio five times a week, either walking or running, and I love Pilates so I do that twice a week, too.

"Pilates is great because I can target the areas of my body that I want to work on."

"I use the cadillac, that's a special piece of Pilates equipment, also known as a trapeze table - plus another machine called a reformer, and I do mat work," she said. She also eats a diet which largely consists of Japanese food, raw fish and chicken, and avoiding - you guessed it - carbs.

Her 400,000 Instagram followers are regularly treated to stunning body shots and glimpses of her fitness regime.

Starting off as a lifeguard, then a swim instructor, Elly soon progressed and eventually ran her own swim school for 10 years. When the fitness boom hit London, Elly answered the call and quickly became qualified to teach it all as she continued to gain more skills

“Boxercise, aerobics, aquacise, circuits, I got qualified in them all,” said Elly. “And when techno gym came into the gyms, that’s when I left the wet side and became a personal trainer.

In 1995, Elly attended the prestigious London Institute of Pilates, gaining qualifications in mat-based 1, 2, 3 and equipment. Elly now is one of the most sought after Pilates instructors in Queensland.

“Pilates is all about visualisation,” she said. “You have to use your mind to assist in strengthening your body. “Initially Pilates may seem a little daunting to some, but with practice and perseverance you will become better skilled and stronger each and every time you participate.”

The Face of Pilates at DHP

Elly
Elly (top) with fellow instructor, Jo

Loving the DHP Pilates classes or thinking of attending one? We have the low-down on the energetic and dedicated instructor, Elly:

Elly has been in the fitness industry for 25 years, and has had numerous positions within the industry in that time. Elly has owned her own swim school, was a multiple group fitness instructor, became a personal trainer, an exercise presenter, and finally her main passion, a Pilates Instructor/Teacher.

Elly completed her Anatomy and Physiology level 3 and Sports Massage Certificate so she could offer a wider range of services to her clients. In the years that she has been teaching Pilates at studios/clinics, Elly loves seeing people being able to move again or bend down/sit up straight again, because they had previously been in so much pain. Elly says the fact that you can learn to minimise or remove that pain with no drugs or medication is amazing to her. "You see having a strong core solves loads of problems, where a weak causes so many!" said Elly.

Elly says that Pilates is all about visualisations... you have to use your mind to strengthen your body! Initially Pilates may seem daunting but with practise you will become much better and stronger. The slow flowing movements of Pilates primarily strengthen your transverse (core) muscles that stabilise and support your spine, realign your body and correct postural problems. The eight principles of Pilates are: Concentration, breathing, centring, relaxation, quality of movement, flowing movement, body awareness, stamina.

Elly's main focus now is to work more with Health Professionals to spread the word of this amazing practise that can be taught to people, so they will never have bad backs again!
