DHP Fitness Challenge Board

Have you noticed the new DHP Fitness Challenge Board? Located on the wall in between the male and female change rooms.

It's an opportunity to have your name on the board for doing a one off exercise by the amount of reps, heaviest weights or timing - or trying multi-challenges.

Anyone is welcome to participate... maybe you would like a change from your current program or maybe you don’t have a program and would like to try an exercise from the board.

The Fitness Challenge Board works on the proviso that all entries onto the board are legitimate, and you need to have a staff member or witness before you write your entry onto the board.

Have fun and good luck!

Help Keep Off Extra Kilos

As the days change from scorching hot to cool, there has never been a better time to exercise! Staying motivated in the cooler months is paramount in keeping off those extra kilos that can creep on over the autumn/winter period. With a steady increase in members to Dolphins Health Precinct, we are always thinking of new and exciting ways to get our members involved and take a hands-on approach to facilitating various events, programs and challenges to help them be the best version of themselves. We are often complimented on how welcome our members feel at DHP, from the dedicated staff and the friendly atmosphere. It’s great to see friends catching up for coffee post-workout or the excited faces of new learn to swim students. We strive to ensure DHP is a place where all are welcome and all feel inspired, comfortable and motivated.

DHP's Resident MMA Champion - Jozey James

Jozey (right) opposite his opponent at the weigh-in

Dolphins Health Precinct are privileged to have many different types of Members at different stages of their fitness journey.

Today we look at one such Member; Jozey James. Jozey competed in his first MMA fight last weekend and won in the under 80kg class. Jozey is in an elite category and attributes his wins to the following:
  • Trained in Martial Arts since he was 4 (or since he could walk!)
  • Judo, Taekwondo, Tora Bushido (Black Belt at 14 years), boxing and kickboxing.
  • Trains out of Integrated Martial Arts Academy in Stafford – one of the best gyms in Australia.
  • Jozey’s trainers are selected as the very best in their fields with Australia’s number 1 MMA trainer Dan Higgins heading the Mixed Martial Arts and MMA Champion Adrian “the hunter” Pang.

Jozey has won a couple of Kickboxing, Boxing and Thai Boxing fights over the years and has played Rugby League for 15 years (starting at Arana). He works at Eagle Farm mentoring apprenticeships / traineeships – making sure they have a balanced life and keeps them on track.

Jozey says he chose DHP because the facilities were impressive and they suited his training with the equipment and Aquatic Centre, he says he really feels comfortable at DHP because of how welcoming the staff are.

We wish Jozey well in his future MMA fight pursuits and are proud to have him as a Member of DHP.

DHP Dragon Boating!

Have you ever wondered what the Dolphins Health Precinct get up to when they’re not at work helping their members?

On a lovely sunny Sunday, 2 teams of Dolphins Health Precinct staff taking part in a Corporate Dragon Boat Race organised by Redcliffe Dragon Boat, and held at the Redcliffe Jetty.

In this corporate regatta the teams have 10 paddlers in each boat. The paddlers sitting 2 abreast and a sweep to steer the boat. The race is over 200 metres and takes just over 1 minute to paddle. DHP put in 2 teams for this regatta.

HUGE effort from DHP! Great to see such commitment and community spirit. DHP staff have shown that they are not afraid to try new things and that fun and fitness go hand in hand.

Congratulations to all DHP Staff.

Staff & Management Weight Battle - UPDATE

L - R: Rayleen, Danielle & Jody
Ryan (Personal Trainer)

L - R: Wayne, Peter & Tony
Ryan (Personal Trainer)
EVERYONE enjoys a challenge and the staff and management at Redcliffe Leagues Club are no different. Group operations manager Justin Charlish has launched a Healthy 10-Week Challenge with two teams of three drawn from club management and DHP. “You could call it a battle of the sexes or a chance to battle it out with management,” Justin said.

The three managers are general manager Tony Murphy, gaming manager Wayne Miller and catering manager Peter Hurley. DHP personal trainer Ryan Andrews has his work cut out for him with this challenge, but was keen to jump at the opportunity to push these guys to achieve their goals and change their lives.

The three DHP challengers are Jody Hollingsworth, Danielle O’Connor and Rayleen Beveridge. “All competitors in this health rivalry challenge are super excited about changing their lives and challenging each other in the process,” Justin said. “I introduced the healthy challenge because we see and hear it all the time on TV, newspapers and radio about switching to that lifestyle. “A healthy lifestyle should really be something that overflows into your daily work environment and routine. Seeing that you spend most of your week at work, you should always achieve a balance which will make you feel fresh and good about yourself. Best of all you will be more productive at work. “Not only does the challenge bring out some healthy competitiveness, it also forms a bond, a connection where we all support each other.

The challengers even monitor what each participant eats and they motivate each other when passing during the day. “Make sure if you see these familiar faces in the gym, say hi and give them some encouragement.” Justin said the challenge was launched in late July and after one week the changes have been outstanding.
  • Males in week 3 have lost 59cm between them
  • Females in week 1 have lost 22cm between them

DHP will also offer corporate workplace challenges so if any business are interested they can contact DHP for details.

Be Quick! Be A Part of the DHP Jetty2Jetty Team

ONCE again Dolphins Health Precinct will focus on the Jetty 2 Jetty fun run/walk in July. Held on Sunday, July 15, the scenic course over either the 3km, 5km, 10km or 21km events follows the picturesque Redcliffe waterfront, starting and finishing in front of the Belvedere Hotel next to the Woody Point jetty.

The event attracts more than 4000 people to Woody Point and for the third year running Dolphins Health Precinct will be represented with a mix of enthusiastic members and staff across all races. Last year the Dolphins had about 100 participants and hope to exceed that number in 2012. The fun run/walk is a great family and community day and everyone can be involved, walkers and runners alike. The Dolphins Health Precinct competitors complete the event with a barbecue and drinks to round off a great active day of fun. Anyone wanting to join the DHP team needs to complete a registration form at reception and pay the entry cost and $20 for a DHP Special Memorabilia Jetty2Jetty shirt. Early Bird savings are in place until May 13 so get in quickly.

DHP is also offering a fantastic training opportunity for those who want to get ready for the big race.

For 10 weeks leading up to the race, every Saturday at 7am there will be a training run developed and co-ordinated by one of our highly experienced personal trainers. This gives people the opportunity to work on running style, race preparation, race nutrition, setting and meeting race goals and increasing general fitness. DHP is offering an incredible package that includes a 10-week run training program, race entry (any distance) and a DHP shirt – all for $99. This is a great opportunity to get fit, get some expert advice and feel ready to take on the big event.
