Benefits of the PLANK Exercise

Plank exercises are a popular element of isometric training, which involves contracting your muscles against stationary resistance. Isometric exercises are common for injury rehabilitation or reconditioning. Isometric exercises, such as planks, can help you get past strength-training plateaus and improve energy transference between your upper body and lower body. Plank exercises, in particular, benefit multiple elements of physical fitness and your general well-being.

Plank exercises have aesthetic benefits that can enhance your appearance by improving posture. Planks activate core muscles, including the transverse abdominis and iliopsoas, which stabilise your spine and hips. Plank exercises help prevent or reverse postural deficiencies, including lordosis and posterior pelvic tilt. Lordosis, or swayback, results from abdominal weaknesses that overextend your back; it tends to make your buttocks stick out. Posterior pelvic tilt, or flat back, results from hip flexor weaknesses and flattens the normal curvature of your spine.

Next time you're at DHP, give this exercise a go!

IHRSA 2012 and a Few AMAZING People

A crowd starts gathering

Hello again, as mentioned in our eNewsletter we attended the International Health, Racquet & Sports Club Association which is otherwise known as IHRSA. The location was faultless, being in Los Angeles, the speakers were amazing and extremely inspiring. One being described as "a visionary thinker with a rare intellect" Simon Sinek. The other being the Chief envanglist of Apple, Guy Kawasaki. Along with that all of the new fitness equipment or should I say toys which were unique and cutting edge.

IHRSA exposed us to some amazing professionals, but nothing prepared us for who else we saw...

Beto & Kerry

All I could see in the distance was a gathering crowd,  and a funky dressed instructor with some sharp choreography, charisma and energy. As we approached I heard Kerry say its B.... but i couldnt hear because the gathered crowd had started to scream, laugh and dance like the pide piper had pulled out his magic flute and mesmerized the crowd to follow his every move!! I soon realized I was caught and moving to the beat. Finally Kerry moved closer to the man behind Zumba, the man who built an empire on helping people have fun and burning calories.

Come and experience the energy and fun of Zumba in Kerry Sharp's class next week!
